Yesterday we launched CrosstownNY.com with Brian DiNonno. That will be our collaborative home of all things NY sports.

The 7 Line officially launched in April of 2010 and for the first 5 months or so it was strictly based around my love for the New York Mets. In September of 2010 I dropped the Revis Island t-shirt and it was an instant hit. Some people were a little taken back by it since they originally became a fan/follower/customer/friend of The 7 Line because of their connection with the Mets. Not everyone likes the Jets but I figured if it was only a shirt here and there it would be o.k.

This past September my friend Brian DiNonno, who I’ve been working with for years on different t-shirts, wanted to start his own NYR fan brand called Sec. 406.  As you may have known The 7 Line was home for his t-shirts since we figured it would be an easier way for him to break into the market and get his t-shirts seen. The 7 Line already had a strong following so instead of him starting from scratch we teamed up on that new venture. He designs every Sec 406 shirt, I print them at my warehouse and sell them on The 7 Line site.

Now The 7 Line expanded from Mets to Jets to Rangers. That ticked even more people off since the O.G. die hards of ours were now subjected to Jets and Rangers tees although they may support the opposing Giants and Islanders. I can see how this may be frustrating to some while others just shrugged it off.

Most fans of NY teams follow more than one sport. I obviously consider myself a die hard fan of the Mets, but I also follow the Jets, Rangers and Knicks. I have creative ideas outside of baseball and would love an outlet to expand on those ideas without the scrutiny of The 7 Lines original fan base. Brian on the other hand is the almost the complete opposite. While we both support the Knicks and Rangers he is a fan of the Yankees and Giants.

Yesterday I came up with the “Ya better believe I’m not a G-Men fan” shirt and that sparked a whole wave of new controversey on The 7 Line facebook page. Some Jets fans loved it while a TON of Giants fans said “I’d buy that IF it didn’t have the last line”.

Expansion is now necessary. Brian and I support different teams but we are creative enough in our own rights to bring local sports fans something different. There is no market for what we are trying to accomplish here in NY.

The 7 Line will go back to the original game plan. Strictly NYM based fan wear. Everything else has now moved to CrosstownNY.com YES….. EVEN Yankees tees. Brian will have total control over that aspect of the brand. I vowed to never cross the lines of one team per sport for The 7 Line. This new collaborative brand is something exciting for both Brian and I. He gets full control of his teams as I do for my own.

Neither of us support the Islanders but we may even toss their 5 fans something as well haha. Bills? Not any time soon.

A true to NY die hard fan clothing brand.  This is the idea behind CrosstownNY.com

Congrats, Makes sense as “The 7 Line” is synonymous with Queens and the Mets as far as I am concerned. This is cool though for an alternative to the boring mass marketed team gear. Hoping for more Knicks merch soon!

I write books about sports and for a while it was mainly about the Mets. Mets fans are great and I consider myself one of the highest order, but if this is your main occupation, you’ve got to strike while you can and expand your territory. If people don’t like one of your products, they don’t have to buy it. A couple of people called me traitor for working on other teams, but we’ve all got to get through this fallow period and your ideas are good. Best of luck.
