Friday Find: Oakley Frogskins

by Darren on February 10th, 2012 at 9:00 am

I slacked on last Friday’s post due to some computer trouble, but this weeks find is pretty damn awesome.

I was on the hunt for some new shades to bring down to Spring Training and randomly came across a site that had this bad ass looking pair. The “Friday Find” is a post about something I find that boasts our teams colors with no team affiliation or kickback. It’s not usually in a companies best interest to encourage potential customers to spend their money elsewhere, but I like to share what I can with the Mets fan base. Just trying to help out your wardrobe.

I ended up ordering a pair even though they are a little on the pricey side. Since I tend to lose sunglasses I try to keep my budget at around $30 max… these rang in at $120. They’re almost sold out on most websites so I didn’t want to miss out on my opportunity to don these at games this season.

I found a coupon code for ZephyrSports.com that knocked $10 off the price and they also offer free shipping. They’re no hassle return policy was also pretty comforting in the case I don’t like the fit once they arrive.

The code is: repo5 and they are showing to only have 3 pairs left. If you want a pair I’d hurry up and jump on it.

Enoy your weekends everybody! ALMOST TIME FOR SPRING TRAINING! CLEAN SLATE!

Friday Find: Animal Bike New Era Hats

by Darren on January 27th, 2012 at 4:00 pm

This weeks Friday Find comes from our friends at Animal Bikes. These hats dubbed the “Amazins” come in your choice of two colorways. Since these were release over a year ago stock is low on sizes, but at the price of $10 for a rare New Era you really can’t go wrong.

Animal is a local bmx brand with NYC/NJ roots. Their team of riders are well known for their “street” style, which to those not in the know is what you’d call grinding on anything you’d see in a real street setting. Animals inception came back in 2000 and are now known globally in and out of the BMX world.

Animal were always awesome to me back when I was riding on the regular so hopefully we can return the favor by helping to liquidate the rest of their stock. If you run a size 7 3/4,  7 7/8 or 8 they got you covered. If you have a smaller head and want to track down a lid, try searching the net for another retailer that may have some left.

Friday Find: Nike Dunk SB High

by Darren on January 20th, 2012 at 10:00 am

Today’s Friday Find are these fresh orange and blue SB Dunk Highs by Nike. If you didn’t see last weeks Friday Find this is a once a week blog post letting you in on some gear in our team colors. Not everyone wants to wear a team issued jersey or hat to show their colors, I’ll try my best to fill you in on what I find.

These were purchased for me two summers ago by my buddy SoCo at the Nike outlet out in Riverhead, NY. He text me a photo and asked if I wanted a pair. My reply was something like “YES!!!! Size 11!”

I enjoy owning a wide variety of sneakers although I think some people are way overboard with it. I buy sneakers to wear them, not to keep in a box and “collect”.

I’m sure these are long gone from the Nike outlet, but they are for sure available somewhere online. I don’t want to endorse a particular website since there are a TON of fakes out there. Do some research and use your common sense and discretion. If the site looks sketchy, they’re prob fugazi. Also, if they seem way too cheap.. odds are they’re fakes.

The only reputable site that I can give you my 100% confidence in is FrontStreetNY.com Front Street is a sneaker site run by my good friend George Kastrinakis. He stocks a wide variety of sneakers with an inventory that changes daily.  He doesn’t currently have this particular sneaker but if you hit him up I’m sure he’ll be able to find you a pair.

Friday Find: Vans Owens Hi 2

by Darren on January 13th, 2012 at 6:00 pm

After scarfing down some grub in the food court today I strolled into the Vans store to see if anything jumped out at me. I already own way too many pairs of sneakers but like a fatty in McDonalds I can’t say no to something that grabs my eye.

If you’re like me you try to rep your colors all year round. I’m not the type that wears a jersey in the off season, but I like to keep some orange and blue in my wardrobe all 12 months of the year. Although the blue in these sneakers isn’t exactly royal they are close enough to be a necessity in my collection.  To be honest if they were royal, they might look pretty gross. I’m saving these bad boys for opening day in April.

After further inspection I noticed that these particular sneakers are a signature BMX style from my old buddy Chase Hawk. I met Chase back when he was around 15 years old in his hometown Austin, TX around 2003. At the time I owned a clothing brand called Manmade and Chase was on the cusp of being known worldwide for his talents on a bicycle. We became friends and he eventually ended up on my team of sponsored riders. I closed the doors on Manmade around 2007 and by then Chase was a household name with anyone who’s anyone in BMX. Now he is emulated by every kid coming up and has sponsors out the ass. Although Chase moved on to new things before Manmade was dead I’m proud to say that I was one of his first sponsors. It’s awesome how far he has come. Having fun, riding a bike, traveling the world and getting paid to do something he loves… that’s the life.

If you’d like to pick up these sneakers head over to your favorite Vans dealer or shop online HERE with our old friends from EMPIRE BMX for $59.95. If you never owned a pair of Vans they fit true to size and keep your feet feeling happy all day. Great all around sneaker.
