Tag Archives: Please Stay Jose
Since I was such a supporter of Jose Reyes staying with the Mets last season people have been asking my opinion on how I’ll feel when he’ll return this Tuesday.
Will I boo? No. Will I cheer? I don’t think so.
I don’t think it’s right that the Mets are playing a video tribute before the game. Playing that is pretty much telling the fans that we should clap by jamming it down their throats. I understand it’s customary to play when an ex player comes back to town. That being said the Mets haven’t had a player like this leave in a long time. Piazza was a different story because he was near the end of his career and not playing for a division rival. Reyes is still in the prime of his career, if his legs stay healthy.
Not saying how anyone else should feel but personally I’m not mad at Jose. He is a talent in the league that deserved to be paid. The Mets couldn’t afford him and made NO OFFER. The Marlins did and now he’s gone. Taking himself out of the last game? I didn’t like that, but what can we do about it now? Jose didn’t know that was going to be his last AB when he layed down the bunt in the bottom of the 1st. He should have at least went out for the 2nd inning if they were going to take him out of the game. That way the fans could have given him a hearty ovation that would have eventually been his send off.
Deal with it and move on. He now plays for the enemy and once the game starts he is just another guy in an opposing uniform.
Got an awesome mention today on the CBS New York website. It’s pretty crazy that The 7 Line and Jose Reyes are synonomis when taking about the possibility of a trade during this past season and now the free agency.
The “Don’t Trade Reyes” movement was huge and I’m happy that I helped give the fans a voice throughout the world. There were signs at every game, home and on the road. Fans in other countries even bought the shirts with no intentions of going to a game. Our common message spread that far and it’s because of the die-hards that The 7 Line is even respected in the media. Together we are community of loyal fans and they obviously heard our cheers.
Thank you to CBS for mentioning the campaign and acknowledging the fans. Hopefully we (the fans) made enough noise during the season. The little bird on Jose’s shoulder is still chirping PLEASE STAY JO-SE in his ear while he is counting those extra zeros on the impending offers…. hopefully he hears it. STAY IN NY!
Daily News ran a story today about Jose and his tough decisions laid out in front of him. As we all know Reyes is a free agent and after tonight’s game 7 in STL the bidding war will officially begin. The Mets have a 5 day window for exclusive talks with Reyes but it’s apparent that nothing will be accomplished in that time frame.
The photo of myself in the article was taken the last day of the season. Seconds after the shutter closed, Reyes bunted to first and pulled himself from the game to help insure he would keep the NL batting title lead (until Braun played that night). Plenty of players have done the same in the past, look it up. At first I was disappointed and unsure as to why or who made that decision. During the post game it became apparent that Jose made the call prior to the first pitch, asking/telling T.C. that if he reached base in the 1st he wanted to sit. 1-1 is better than 1-2… I don’t have a problem with that, but the way they should have handled it would have been to at least have him play out the game until his 2nd at bat.
With the majority of the fans either not in their seats or running late due to it being a weekday daytime match up, he was out of the game before they even got to see him field a grounder. In my opinion that was wrong, but there’s no use re-hashing a story every media outlet already stroked for a good week or two after our season ended. What’s done is done. I just hope that wasn’t the last time I see him in blue and orange.
NOW, we have a waiting game. Will he go? Will he take less money to stay in NY? Does the advice from the “Straw Man” play any part? Will the pleads from Wright help Reyes make a decision? Who the hell knows… I’m sure we’ll be reading many stories like the one in today’s Daily News. Thanks to writer Andy Martino for including me.
The fan base was super supportive of Jose during the season, but I doubt anyone will be as motivated to Occupy Citi Field to try and get him to sign a deal with the New York Metropolitans. If anyone want’s to hold a mini rally, I’m game.
NOW WE WAIT… Please Stay JO-SE clap, clap, clap, clap, clap…
LGM!
Tonight at Citi Field! The PLEASE STAY JOSE RALLY! We are meeting up at 6pm inside McFaddens for an adult beverage power hour then heading up to the Shea Bridge for the whole game. If you made a sign, bring it. If you didn’t, come anyway for a great time with other fans like yourself! Jose isn’t playing but we’re having a party on the Shea Bridge.
MY ONLY REQUEST. PLEASE KEEP AN OPEN PATH FOR FANS TRYING TO CROSS. BE RESPECTFUL! THANK YOU!
Watch this video and picture it being multiplied by a hundred + fans. That is the goal of the Citi Field Shea Hooligan crew and outings like this can only help their vision to get a supporters section at Citi Field. Think of it as a spot where we can all sit together, having a good time without bothering other fans who like to sit on their hands. “Coach” of the crew altered the lyrics for tonight.. study it, learn it and meet us tonight!

Tomorrow Night. Citi Field. Shea Bridge. 7pm.
Some solid points about our SS:
- He is currently hurt
- He is injury prone
- He is up for a new contract
- He was the best player in baseball before the A.S.B.
- The fans love him
If you are against resigning Reyes who would you rather be the full timer? Tejada? He may turn into something great but I can’t picture Tejada being a solid factor in a playoff team.
We NEED Jose in our lineup. The Mets HAVE to make him an offer and hopefully he’ll take it. The facts have shown that when Jose plays, we win. Lets pray for healthy seasons and keep him a Met for life.
Meet us at McFaddens tomorrow night at 6pm. We’ll pregame with some drink specials that they set up just for our group. I’ll have the last of the PLEASE STAY JOSE shirts with me so don’t worry if you didn’t grab one on the webstore when they were available.
Make a sign and cheer for our future. Jose won’t be in the lineup but ownership is listening.
Huge shout out to our fan Victorio for getting his sign up on the AP website! Hit buddy Peter gets the assist for giving a hand.
This shot is from Friday nights game in DC as seen here. Jose loved the sign, pointed and smiled the first time it went up and gave head nods throughout the game.
Good job guys! Free shirt getting mailed tomorrow!
If you are going to a game soon and want some free shirts get your sign shown somewhere with THE 7 LINE visible and I’ll hook ya up.
LGM! PLEASE STAY JOSE! GET YOUR SHIRT HERE!
Since the Don’t Trade Reyes idea turned into a coast to coast movement we decided to throw another rally at Citi Field!
On August 19th get your asses down to Citi Field! We will meet up at McFaddens around 6pm for some pregame brews. Once the game starts we will gather peacefully on the Shea Bridge and watch the game.
Last time we had close to 400 people out there going bonkers for Jose. He even stopped while playing SS and threw a wave our way.
MAKE SIGNS, WEAR OUR TSHIRT AND CHEER LOUDLY FOR #7!
Ownership and Jose are listening! We need him to take an offer at the end of the season and stay with the Mets for his entire career.
Order your shirt with enough time to guarantee shipping. Get yours now HERE.
If Facebook is your thing check out the event HERE.
