R.A. DICKEY: Wherever I wind up

by Darren on April 13th, 2012 at 11:20 am

Yesterday I finished reading R.A. Dickey’s book “Wherever I wind up” while sitting pool side in Pensacola Florida. I’ve been on vacation since Monday and took the book along with me for the trip.

I haven’t voluntarily read a book since College about 10 years ago. That’s sad to say, but it’s the truth. I get my daily reading in through newspapers, websites and blogs. I tend to lose my attention span pretty easily and the books I have tried, I end up losing interest in after a few pages. Any outside noise usually distracts me too. I’m also not very good at sitting still. All the ingredients for a terrible reader. I decided that I was going to try my best to read R.A.’s book, but after starting I realized I didn’t need to try…. I couldn’t put it down.

From page 1 to 340 I was completely zoned in. I don’t want to give up any details for those who plan on reading, but his life story is amazing. Very inspirational and gave me a different outlook about how I can better my own life. Dickey tries to live in a way that will better him as a husband, father, family member, friend and ball player. He has faith in God and prays that he will be the best he can in every situation. Doesn’t pray to strike out Price Fielder, he asks God to give him the strength to try the best he can in the battle. You don’t need to be a baseball fan or religious person to respect his life journey.

Not even a few minutes after I put the book down I received a Tweet with the above photo from Scot Reutzel aka @PorcelainSkyLLC . He had his book signed down in Nashville, TN and was wearing our DARTH DICKEY shirt in the process. Thanks Scot! And thanks again to R.A. for being so cool with The 7 Line. It’s an honor to team up with you for the Kilimanjaro Outreach charity.

Everyone head out and pick up a copy! I am so happy the way things worked out for R.A., he deserves it.

I promise that you’ll love it.

R.A. On The Hill and Rauch is ready!

by Darren on April 7th, 2012 at 8:40 am

Remember that custom shirt I made for Jon Rauch?

He mailed me one of his Nike dri-fit shirts and asked if I could print the Darth Dickey design on it. Are you kidding? Of course!

He said he’d like to wear it under his jersey on days when R.A. is on the mound…. and today is just that day!

If you don’t know, R.A. is a Star Wars nut, and I designed that last season just before the “Star Wars Night” at Citi Field. Dickey loved it and we teamed up to raise money for the Kilimanjaro Outreach during his climb. A portion of each Darth Dickey shirt sold goes to the charity.

I woke up to see this photo was sent out on his Twitter account. SO AWESOME! Good luck today guys!

R.A. signed tshirt: Even Lesbians Love Dickey

by Darren on March 27th, 2012 at 6:00 pm

Signed t-shirt by R.A. Dickey - Even Lesbians Love Dickey - The7Line

Before last season started I received an email from a group of girls. They had a great idea and I just had to make it come to life.

The idea… a t-shirt that said EVEN LESBIANS LOVE DICKEY. How could you not smile at that? I created the graphic, showed the girls and proceeded with the t-shirt design.

During last summer fans were e-mailing us saying that they were getting their shirts signed by R.A. and that he was getting a kick out of it. This was before I had the opportunity to meet R.A. so I was unsure how he would respond. It was refreshing to hear that he had a sense of humor. Rumor has it that even Jose Reyes was wearing one in the clubhouse last season before a game.

I ended up mailing a shirt to one of the girls down in Virgina, and she asked R.A. to sign it for her before a game against the Nationals. She held on to it for a bit and it arrived on my doorstep this morning.  What an awesome surprise! Thanks Rebecca Waddington!

This shirt is currently really low on stock, but we will be printing more once the season starts. If you didn’t know, we have since teamed up with R.A. and a portion of each shirt sold bearing his name in our line goes to the Kilimanjaro Outreach / Bombay Teen Challenge charity.

Custom Shirt For Jon Rauch: Darth Dickey

by Darren on March 26th, 2012 at 6:00 pm

After hearing that Jon Rauch “borrowed” our Darth Dickey poster from the PSL street corner, he hit me up on twitter asking if I could print a custom shirt for him to wear (under his jersey) when R.A. is on the mound this season. Of course I said yes.

I had one shot to get this right so I was very careful lining up the shirt to make sure everything was centered. Nike dri-fit shirts aren’t cheap and I’d look like an idiot telling him I messed it up. Last thing I’d want to do is tell the 6′ll hurler that he needed to mail out another one. Luckily it came out perfect and hopefully it becomes a good luck charm for both Jon and R.A.!

If you’d like to get your hands on the t-shirt version of this design you can do so by clicking HERE. A portion of each shirt sold goes to the Kilimanjaro Outreach Charity / Bombay Teen Challenge in Dickeys name. That is the foundation that R.A. was raising money for during his climb up the mountain this past offseason.

The culprit comes clean!

by Darren on March 23rd, 2012 at 7:15 pm

Just posted this video on YouTube and tossed the link up on Twitter. Within minutes @jrauch60, Mets pitcher Jon Rauch sent me this tweet….

I was wondering who took it down! Thanks for the admission Jon… at least it made for a good story!

With R.A.’s approval these are now available for sale along with the matching t-shirts.

Jump on over to the webstore and pick one up HERE. A portion of each shirt and poster sold goes towards the Kilimanjaro Outreach charity.

Suite Party recap

by Darren on September 25th, 2011 at 1:00 pm

What a day! Great weather, stellar pitching from R.A. Dickey, a couple surprise visits and an all around good time with friends old and new.

When I reserved this suite earlier in the season I thought for sure I’d have no problem getting rid of 45 tickets. Unfortunately… the team took a dive, playoff hopes were over and the only ones still shelling out money for days at the ball park are the die hards or tourists. The $210 price is steep but ask anyone who went yesterday, it was worth it!

Lizy on the left, My mom Carolyn and The 7 Line’s first lady Kelly pose for a shot before the game.

R.A. was originally going to stop by before the game, but since his start got pushed back from Friday to our game (due to the rain out) obviously that plan was nixed. He had a no hitter going into the 7th and we all had hoped that the streak would finally be over for the Mets. Imagine the luck we’d have? R.A.’s start gets pushed back to our game and he throws a no hitter? Those ticket stubs would be framed in a heart beat! Unfortunately, Shane Victorino hit a double and the Phillies quickly got on the board 1-0. The Mets were able to fight back for the win, but R.A. got the no decision after another great outing. The Mets bats are just not working for him. I feel like since Santana is out Dickey gets the same run support, NONE.

I was able to pull a few strings to get Mr. Met to stop by for some photos and everyone in the suite was loving it. I also bothered Burkhardt for a couple days via Twitter to come say what’s up and even though he was under the weather he came in for a bit as well. Thanks for stopping by Kevin! I know you were being sarcastic with that “dude, I get it” tweet but you told me to remind you so I had to be persistent!

KB gets a quick interview by Phillip Hall for our own version of the Pix 11 broadcast.

As you can see in the background of this photo. The WIN OR LOSE, WE STILL BOOZE sign was not displayed over our railing as I originally planned. I blame myself for putting it out there too early. I hung it over the railing around 11:45 am to the disappointment of the Citi Field security staff. When I was in this suite on the 4th of July weekend I hung my DON’T TRADE REYES sign for the whole game but that one was more “family friendly”. If I waited until the game started it may gave gone unnoticed.

After a visit from Mr. Kasdon,  the Citi Field VP of Security, I agreed that the sign might not be cohesive as the message the Mets are trying to portray. My point was that this late in the season the open bar was a sales point to most of the people in my party. I figured after shelling out thousands of dollars on the suite they would have been a little more lenient but I understood the argument on this one. He was extremely nice and although I wanted to display it I was happy to oblige.

Alcohol compliance also made a visit to the suite by around 12:30 when they were informed that we were already getting a new keg tapped before the game even started haha. The 45 of us put a serious dent in the Aramark liquor cabinet and I’d like to send a huge thank you to our bartender Danielle for being on top of her game. The booze gets cut off after the 7th inning and she did a great job keeping up with the bombardment of drink orders.

Walking my girls back to the train. Kelly, myself and Mom.

Ticket to the game, open bar, food, the chance to win signed raffle prize merch from Met players, meeting Mr.Met and Kevin Burkhardt, everyone received a gift certificate to Strawberry’s, tax/service charges/gratuity, special limited edition Mr. Met t-shirt printed exclusively for our guest and a METS WIN!

It was a great day at the ballpark. Thank you to everyone who came. I expect next year to sell out fast! If you get the chance to attend a game from a suite I highly recommend it. Pretty sure all who attended yesterday already RSVP’ed.

R.A. Dickey partners up with The 7 Line!

by Darren on September 10th, 2011 at 11:55 am

I’ve known about this possible partnership with R.A. Dickey for a couple weeks now but didn’t want to let the cat out of the bag until we could plan a formal meeting. Obviously his schedule is crazy but we were able to link up this morning at Citi Field.

R.A.’s agent Bo McKinnis emailed saying that they would like to give The 7 Line permission to use R.A.’s name and likeliness. At first I thought it was a joke since I’ve never heard of a professional athlete reaching out to a fan based brand to publicly back them. R.A. stepped up for me and that speaks volumes.

“R.A. is actually a fan of your shirts, so I wanted to discuss with you a possible working relationship between R.A. and your company”

If you didn’t know, we’ve been producing the “Even Lesbians Love Dickey” shirts since the beginning of this season and just recently designed this new “Darth Dickey” shirt after seeing his visit to the MLB Fan Cave. R.A. is a self proclaimed “Star Wars Nerd” as stated in his Twitter bio and I figured this would be an appropriate shirt to release with the news of us teaming up. Get yours HERE.

From now on a portion of each Dickey shirt sold will go towards the Kilimanjaro Outreach charity. Here is an excerpt from the New York Times article about his plan to climb the Mountain this off season:

“The charity Dickey has chosen to promote and donate to is the Red Light District Outreach Mumbai, which is part of the Bombay Teen Challenge. It is an organization that rescues girls from enslavement in the sex trade and fights human trafficking. Dickey and his wife, Anne, have been involved with a similar organization, the International Justice Mission, and they felt the Red Light District Outreach Mumbai would be the best recipient.”

You can read that full story HERE.

I can’t express how awesome this is for me. The brand has really taken off this season and I can’t thank the fans enough for their support. You guys are awesome. LGM!

Photo Of The Day: SPACEDICKEY

by Darren on August 23rd, 2011 at 11:04 pm

I learned this past week on Twitter that R.A. Dickey (@RADickey43) is a Star Wars / Spaceballs fan.  Decided to whipped this up tonight during the nail biter of a battle down in Philly.

What a day!

by Darren on July 22nd, 2011 at 8:22 pm

Reyes is the man! I can’t disclose how I was able to get this photograph of Reyes and I signed but it made my day.

I headed out to yesterdays game earlier than any other game of my 30 year fan career. First pitch was scheduled for 12:10pm and I was out the door by 9. After a quick stop at Staples for a silver marker (which came in handy!) I did the daily pit stop at Dunkin for a medium iced coffee then it was off to the ballpark.

I found out that the majority of the players would have been to the stadium by 8:30ish so by the time I got there I missed both Reyes and Dickey. It was my goal to get the photograph signed by Reyes and to give Dickey one of our Even Lesbians Love Dickey shirts. I also brought an extra with me incase he would have been nice enough to sign it.

I yelled over to one of the clubhouse guys as they were packing up a uhaul truck with all the teams luggage for the roadtrip after the game. He looked at the shirt, laughed and said he would hand deliever it to Dickey himself. If you remember from our Facebook/Twitter posts Dickey signed a shirt for one of our fans while in Detroit and he said wanted one.

Fast forward to today… I got an email from one of the producers at Mets Weekly saying that REYES was wearing the Even Lesbians Love Dickey shirt in the Mets Clubhouse before the game! Either Dickey gave it to Jose or let him borrow it…. whatever the case may be it’s freakin awesome. They are two of my favorite Mets and even though I didn’t get to see it I am sure they were having a laugh over it.

Dickey, if you are reading this or if anyone knows how to get in contact with him tell him that I’d love to get one of those shirts signed to frame in my apartment.

Both of yesterdays goals were reached and although the Mets lost I had a great time sweating my ass off in Flushing. Also a special thanks goes out to Nick aka Jack Walsh for hooking me up with the photo. I owe ya one man!
