OABT S3 E2: Brodie Van Wagenen joins the show, Mets talk and more
Spring Training is in full swing, and Brodie Van Wagenen joined the show from Hop Life Brewing Company down in Port Saint Lucie. Darren and BVW chat about a variety of topics like his Yoenis Cespedes expectations, a potential Tom Seaver statue, his social media presence, trading Kelenic, the Mets bullpen cart, David Wright's new role with the organization, and a few questions from twitter.
Darren also caught up with Darryl Strawberry at the QBC at Katch in Astoria back in January. Always great to chat with Straw.
Check back each week for new episodes throughout the baseball season. We stream on FB Live and Periscope/Twitter, and post afterwards as a podcast. For now check out the replay. If you're feeling it, share with your friends, subscribe to the podcast, and rate/review.
Shout out to our friends at Mikkeller NYC for the tasty beers. They're located at Citi Field, and open year round. Check them out the next time you're in Flushing. An "Orange and Blue Thing" is something that Mets fans can relate to, so that's what we talk about. The comments section during the live stream turns in to a chat room, and the fan engagement is cool to see.
This might also be curtains for OABT. It's been a fun 7 years, but this might very well be the final episode. We've had a lot of laughs along the way and we thank you for joining us each week. With that, we chat about our favorite moments running this show, and look to a few important things coming up for Mets fans.
The Mets announced that they're creating a tenured system for their season ticket holders, and a lot of fans are pretty upset about it. Even after this disappointing season, some prices are going up, while some special perks (like Opening Day tickets and postseason strips), are going away for select plans.
We're back from Minnesota after hanging an L on T7LA's calendar. An unnamed Mets staffer said to Darren in Starbucks after the game "hope you had a good time before we shit the bed". We're borrowing a segment from SNY's Off Day Live show and Joe DeMayo joins us. Plus, who snubbed Darren for a selfie at the airport?
