Mets fans have seen quite the group of celebrities, athletes, and personalities toss out the ceremonial first pitch at Citi Field over the recent years. The list boasts comedian Jimmy Kimmel, rapper 50 cent, and Olympic gymnast Laurie Hernandez just to name a few. Well, it might be time to add one more public figure into the mix.
We may soon see our very own POTUS, Donald Trump, attempt to hurl one over the plate at Citi Field. Fancred, a Boston-based sports network, published a video with Anthony Scaramucci where he discusses Trump’s Mets fandom and the possibility of him throwing out the first pitch in Flushing. Scaramucci is the former White House Communications Director and a New York Mets minority owner.
Get the popcorn ready. Trump throwing out the first pitch at Citi would yield the perfect storm of media attention. Think about it now: crazy newspaper headlines, the outrage from political pundits on both sides, and the wild uptick in social media conversation. The thought alone is enough to send #MetsTwitter into a frenzy.
The idea of Donald tossing out the first pitch at Citi isn’t far fetched. According to Scaramucci, Trump watches a lot of SNY in the White House and is a huge Mets fan. He was born and grew up in Queens, and multiple past presidents have done the honor at other stadiums. But, as mentioned in the video, other factors may influence if it ever actually happens. Either way, it’s an interesting story to watch develop, and is sure to elicit a plethora of hot takes.

Pick one Mets game per week during the entire 2025 Mets season and run or walk during it from the first pitch until the final out. Challenge yourself!
Meet up with The 7 Line Army at Pitch 25 before heading in to the game on March 29th! This venue is a couple block from the ballpark and they've put together an amazin' deal for our crew.
This will be our 3rd trip over to Pittsburgh, and we hope you'll be able to join us! The ballpark is beautiful, the surrounding area is a great time, and we can't wait to cheer with you as the Mets take on the Pirates at PNC Park on June 28th.
