Mr. Met Set a New World Record

Mr. Met Set a New World Record

by The 7 Line April 21, 2026

Nobody realized that Mr. Met wasn’t just at Flushing Meadows Park to take photos and high-four runners this year, he was there to race.

On April 19th 2026, at The 7 Line 7K presented by Metropolitan Park, a field of just under 2,000 laced up and took to the course expecting the usual: a high-energy, community-driven run in Queens filled with Mets fans, good vibes, and plenty of orange and blue spirit.

What they didn’t expect was a silent, baseball headed competitor slipping into the pack and putting together one of the most surprising performances of the day.

For the past couple of years, Mr. Met has been a familiar face at the race—posing for photos, cheering runners on, and soaking in the atmosphere. He must have been inspired, because this year he had other plans. He kept that same presence… right up until the starting horn.

No announcement. No hype. No warning. Just a big smile, steady stride, and 7 kilometers ahead.

Let’s be honest: running a 7K is one thing. Running it with a giant baseball for a head, limited visibility, no water, and gigantic New Balance sneakers? That’s something else.

And that’s where the legend begins.

Since we didn't know he was planning to run the race, he wasn't wearing a number. We had no way to track his splits, but photo evidence shows him crossing both the start and finish lines.

The horn went off at 10:00:00am. Deep in the crowd, Mr. Met's race started at 10:03:20am.

We for sure thought he would do the first 100 yards or so and peel off to the side. Nope. Mr. Met ran the whole course.

7 kilometers later (4.35 miles), he crossed the finish line at 10:52:52am.

Mr. Met had crossed the finish line in 49 minutes and 32 seconds—a time that raised more than a few eyebrows once it was discovered. That breaks down to an 11:23 per mile pace and an average speed of 5.27 miles per hour. Not elite by professional standards, sure—but for a mascot running in full costume? That’s a different conversation entirely.

We might be the only ones on the planet hosting 7K races, therefore Mr. Met has now set the bar. As far as we're concerned, unless any other team wants to speak up on their representatives behalf, Met. Met now holds the mascot world record in the 7K distance. Guinness, put it in the books!

Mr. Met casually put together a performance that will go down as one of the most unexpected and impressive highlights in The 7 Line 7K history.

And the best part?

He never said a word about it.
