Talking new Citi Field eats with NYC foodies

Talking new Citi Field eats with NYC foodies

by Tim Reilly March 23, 2018

We already heard about the The 7 Line staff's favorite new food items available at Citi Field for 2018. Now let’s see what the pros had to say.

Leigh Shirvan (@HungryObsession), Chloe Johnson (@EatMeNYC), and Jean Lee (@jeaniuseats) are three New York City-based food experts that were also on hand to taste what Citi Field had to offer. Each run their own very popular Instagram accounts to document their food journeys, and are dangerous follows on an empty stomach.

We found out what new food items they liked the best, which are the most photogenic, and how to capture the perfect photo for your own social feeds.

Favorites

  • Chicken & Waffle from Lil’ Sweet Chick
  • Taco Salad from El Verano Taqueria - It's nice to have a healthier option at the ballpark!
  • Lobster Tacos from Dave Pasternack at Catch Of The Day

Most Photogenic

Pizza from Papa Rosso Pizza

Tips for capturing a great photo:

  • Get great, natural light! Don't wait until the end of the game to get your photo.
  • Work all the angles of your shot until you find the best one!
  • Pick a bold, unique background for your photo! You have a ton of great and unique options when you're at a ballpark.

Favorites

  • Shake Shack's SmokeShack burger: Pat LaFrieda's burgers are plenty good by itself, but when you add bacon, cheese, cherry peppers and mouthwatering ShackSauce - you can't go wrong.
  • Lil’ Sweet Chick's Fried Chicken & Waffles: There's something so amazing about their Fried Chicken. I don't know if it's the batter they use or what, but they cook the chicken so that it's juicy on the inside and perfectly crunchy on the outside.
  • Lobster-topped Sushi Roll from Daruma Sushi: One of the best sushi rolls I've had in awhile! I couldn't stop eating it!

Most Photogenic:

Margherita Pizza from Papa Rosso - you can't go wrong with a pizza picture! Everyone loves pizza.

Tips for capturing a great photo:

Lighting is everything! You don't want the food to look overexposed or be too dark.

Favorites

South Bay Lobster Tacos by Chef Dave Pasternack of Catch of The Day: Loved how he melted the jack cheese around the edges of the white corn tortilla to create cheese crisps...brilliant! All the ingredients tasted very fresh and vibrant. I love the spicy kick from the jalapeños! This is a gourmet lobster taco: Who knew you could find this at a ballpark?!?

Fried Chicken Sandwich by David Chang of Fuku: This is one of my favorite fried chicken sandwiches anywhere. It’s crispy with moist, tender dark chicken meat and has just enough spicy kick to keep it fun to eat. It’s perfectly balanced w/ tangy pickles and sandwiches between a soft, sweet, Martin’s potato bun. It’s probably the easiest and most non-messy food to eat at a ballgame.

Chicken Roll w/ Parmesan Ranch & Spicy Peppers by Box Frites: The hot dog got a modern makeover with this delicious chicken roll. Instead of pork sausages, you get a crispy fried chicken with tangy pickled red peppers sandwiched between a hot dog bun...so tasty!

Most Photogenic

The sushi, and more specifically the california rolls, from Daruma of Tokyo.

Tips for capturing a great photo:

  • Use natural lighting and capture the vibe by using the stadium and fans as a backdrop.
  • I would like to add that the food at Citi Field is home to such diverse culinary options and perfectly represents all that the New York City food scene has to offer!
