Sounds ridiculous doesn’t it? It may be closer to a reality than we think. David Wright was taking BP swings at Citi Field on Monday before the Mets 6-4 loss to the Pirates:
This is not only a trend in the right direction for The Captain, but it’s also inspiring for the fans. In a season where almost all is lost, David could easily rest up and focus on getting ready for 2019. But instead he continues to persevere and try to work his way back into the lineup. It’s another example of David’s love for the game, loyalty to the fans, and dedication to his teammates and the Mets organization.Yes, that's @Mets third baseman David Wright taking cuts in the cage at Citi Field! pic.twitter.com/yciRBbZZ7g

On the other hand, who knows what’s going on with Yoenis Cespedes. He’s been on the DL since the middle of May with a hip issue and no return seems imminent. It’s just another injury to our star player that seems minor initially, but ends up dragging for months. If I’m a betting man, I’d say there’s a shot Yoenis doesn’t see the field again this year. He doesn’t seem to be rushing back, and in all fairness, why would he? Oh right we’re paying him a ton of money.
So that begs the question, who’s coming back first - David or Yoenis?
My first reaction is to laugh at Wright returning first, but at this point, anything is possible. He certainly seems to want it more. And given Yoenis’ recent injury history and lackadaisical approach, he may decide his 2018 campaign is finished. There may not be much to play for in the second half of the season, but it would be nice for the fans to see their star players return for some games. Whether it’s David or Yoenis, or both, we’ll just have to play the waiting game.Who will play first ? Discuss.

Your eyes do not deceive you, we don't have any available Mets 2024 Postseason merch. It's not that we don't have designs ready to go, we just aren't allowed to release them for another 2 weeks. Fanatics gets an exclusive 2 week window on licensed merch.
