Jacob deGrom, aka the best pitcher on the planet in 2018, won the NL Cy Young award (pick up a t-shirt HERE). That came as no real surprise, but not before BBWAA Secretary/Treasurer Jack O’Connell got one last kick to the gut in.

There aren't many deGrom run support jokes that you haven't heard by now. It was a crying shame how silent the bats were every 5th day (and pretty much every other day), but Jacob handled the deserted lineup with more poise than any man should have to swallow.

What you don't see every day is the front offices reaction to said jabs. I'm sure they have Twitter and read the feedback. The replies to @Mets are a dumpster fire on most days, but you almost never get to witness their reactions in real time. Until last night.
We piled in my office to watch the historic announcement. Congrats @JdeGrom19 on the #NLCyYoung! pic.twitter.com/hMSQqR9ybI

Mickey and some others got a laugh, BVW was not amused, and most of the room was unphased. I don't mind these reactions. Although a low blow, you have to admit it was funny. It's ok to laugh at yourself sometimes. It's constructive.
Mickey made some bonehead moves during the year (batting out of order), but that usually comes with the territory for a first time manager. How he and his coaching staff handled JdG this year though was top notch, and it brought home the hardware for CyGrom, albeit not the one that matters most in the trophy room.
Brodie Van Wagenen: "What's that? Ok. Moving on."

I hope this sparks a little extra fire in their tank this offseason. Get some support for our stellar rotation, and stop being the punchline.
We'll be spending Opening Weekend in Houston! Hopefully you'll be one of the 1,300 Mets fans kicking the season off with us in Texas! The Astros didn't have enough availability to fit us for Opening Day, so we locked up 1,300 tickets to game 2 of the season on March 29th.
