According to multiple reports, the Mets have purchased the Syracuse Chiefs of the International League, and intend to make the club their Triple A affiliate after the 2018 season.

As a result, the Mets will sever their ties with the Las Vegas 51s. The Chiefs are currently the Washington Nationals’ Triple A club.
Here’s why fans should be happy:
The Mets will benefit from having their top Triple A prospects much closer to Queens, which will simplify the call-up process. Why does that matter? You may have heard the Mets have had some problems managing injuries. With their Triple A club just a 50 minute flight away, it’s makes the logistics of getting a player in town much easier, and theoretically, that may make the Mets more conservative in how they manage their injuries.
Las Vegas -- and the Pacific Coast League, in general -- lend itself to inflated hitting stats, while pitching stats of even an organization’s top prospect can make anyone look like they have a ceiling of a fifth guy in the rotation. Playing in Syracuse should give fans and the front office alike a more accurate read on our prospects.
We can go watch them! While it’s not a quick subway trip to Brooklyn, the four-and-a-half-hour drive to NBT Stadium allows for the possibility of some outings.
It’s only fitting that Syracuse baseball returns to a state of orange-and-blue. Style points are oh-so important in this game, and we need to know how these guys are going look donning the Mets colors.
If none of the above reasons excite, then take heart that at least we swiped something away from the Nationals.
