I'm always looking for new angles of our summer home, and I shot this back in January from the Delta drop off zone at LGA. Just happened to have my camera on me when the sun was coming up. Good timing.
A lot of people don't realize how close the ballpark is to the World's Fair Marina. The dock originally had 800 slips in the ‘60s during the World's Fair, and is now down to about 250. The names are slipping my mind, but a player or two used to sleep on boats there during homestands back in the day.
Hopefully whenever Willets Points gets her facelift, the marina is more of a destination spot. Would be cool to hang near the water before heading to a game. For now, we're stuck with the chop shops and potholes.
A big part of why the Wilpons bought the team was a vision to revitalize the area around it. Hasn’t come to fruition. Not sure if it’s bureacracy, logistics or what but it would be nice to have a pleasant area to walk around and hang out in on game days.
We have parked over by the marina for years. A long time ago there was no charge. It was a closer walk when it was Shea. Best of all for those of us that live north of the city, its easy to get out to the Grand Central.Bottom line on a hot day there is usually a cool breeze. LGM Ed.
Derrick Bell lived on his boat. It would be nice to walk to the stadium after parking the car without vomitting from the garbage and paint fumes.
Derek Bell was one of the Mets who lived out of Wold’s Fair Marina.
