Much like building up the confidence to ask the prettiest girl to prom, sometimes you just gotta shoot your shot. In this case, it was a Twitter exchange between a Mets fan studying abroad for the semester and Hall of Fame catcher Mike Piazza.
It worked.
What happened next is stuff of legends. I saw the exchange go down, and followed along to see how it would play out.Supporting our favorite Met, @mikepiazza31, and his new team 💙 @Reggiana1919_EN @Mets Meet us while we are in Italy Mr. Piazza? pic.twitter.com/pGaWQh86tn

WHAT!?!? Imagine getting this reply? Requests like this go out all day, but most would expect crickets in return. Uh, yeah, Mike. She'll be there....Would love to, can you come by our office?
— Mike Piazza (@mikepiazza31) March 19, 2018
We would ABSOLUTELY stop by the office!! When are you available? Thank you Mr. Piazza!!

And then....
My dreams just came to life. I just met the most humble MIKE PIAZZA in Reggio Emilia, Italy at his soccer team’s office. A surreal hero experience for sure. Never thought this would come true. Thank you Mike!! 💙🧡 He even talked to my uncle in NY on FT who couldn't be here. pic.twitter.com/HaOOZ0QI55

Unbelievable. Mike goes above and beyond for his fans, and what was a blip on his radar, turned in to a lifelong memory for Ciara and her family.Â
As luck would have it, Ciara is the niece of my buddy Rob Savage. She brought along his 2017 T7LA jersey in hopes this encounter may come true. Not only did Mike sign it, Rob was the lucky guy on the other end of a Facetime call.Â
You're the man, Mike.Â

We hope you'll join us for the 2nd annual T7L7K! The inaugural event far exceeded our expectations and we know 2025 will be even greater. Run (or walk) with us through Flushing Meadows Corona Park, up to the Shea Stadium base paths, and back.Â
