On July 26th 1987 the Mets released the best (in my opinion) giveaway in the history of the game. The Rally Cap was never again available, until now. The 30 year anniversary is this Wednesday, and we're bringing it back to life.
That's 6 year old me on the right, 30 years ago at Shea Stadium. The cap came with a velcro ball that could be placed anywhere on the cap. I stole my friends, and growing up always thought it was supposed to have two. To this day, I still have the cap in my closet. The velcro/fabric combo wasn't the best back then, but I somehow hung on to the ball as well. Wish I still had that t-shirt. It would probably fit now.
When I signed the MLB licensing deal in 2014 I was able to start working with the fine folks over at New Era, and I always had it in the back of my brain to bring this one back. It was wildly popular in the 80's, and is still one of those crowd favorites that you'll occasionally see at the ballpark.
The cap itself was a little tricky to re-make. The fabric, ball and velcro had to be just right and we went through a couple samples to tweak it. The original in '87 was a snapback. No, we won't be making a fitted, stretch fit or any other style. We wanted this to be as close to the OG as possible while only updating the fit. The original was HUGE for some reason.
Like the Home Run Apple beanie, I'm really not sure how popular this will be until it goes live. Especially 30 years later. We have 1,500 ready to ship and they go up at exactly midnight on 7/26/17.
As always, thanks for supporting T7L all these years. It's because of you that we can do what we do, and without you guys backing it, we'd have been dead in the water before ever really getting started. LGM!

We'll be spending Opening Weekend in Houston! Hopefully you'll be one of the 1,300 Mets fans kicking the season off with us in Texas! The Astros didn't have enough availability to fit us for Opening Day, so we locked up 1,300 tickets to game 2 of the season on March 29th.
