The 7 Line Army has been rolling together at Citi Field since the final home game of 2012.
R.A. Dickey tossed his 20th W of the season, and that was the official start of our crew. For that game in 2012, and all home outings for 2013-2015 we designed a different custom t-shirt for each game. Like we still do now for all our away games.
Most fans that were joining us at Citi Field were hitting them all, so we worked with the Mets to put together an official membership package starting in 2016. Instead of collecting a dozen or so t-shirts each year, those fans got an official exclusive custom jersey made by Majestic, the same seat for each game, and the option to purchase a playoff strip.
That first jersey in 2016 was mainly orange with the a blue/white/blue racing stripe down the sides. Classic and clean.
We decided to keep it going with the custom jerseys, and in 2017 we went with a pinstripe version. This jersey had blue shoulders, sleeves, and side panels. This is the only year Mr. Met made an appearance too. He was on the left sleeve,
In 2018, we went with the Mets 1993 script logo with the tail.
In 2019, we went with a heather grey sleeved version as a nod to the 50 year anniversary to the 1969 Champs.
For 2020. we went with NY on the chest, an NYC flag inspired sleeve cuff, and a blue back. Since the season didn't happen (well it kinda did, but not for fans), we started wearing it in 2021.
It's very difficult coming up with an entirely new jersey each season when sticking with the predominantly orange theme. We toyed with the idea of switching to blue, but after a lot of thought, we're sticking with orange. It's who we've become, and a big part of our identity.
Play The Show, and our sea of orange is in it. Check the score during the game on the MLB app, we're right there in the outfield. See a fan on tv wearing an orange jersey when T7LA isn't there as a group, odds are they're one of us.
Now, back to the original thought of not needing a million different event t-shirts. How many different orange jerseys do you really need? I'm with you. So starting this year, the jersey is optional for renewing members.
But, to me this years jersey is fire, and when you look above, it is different enough that I feel a lot of you are still going to want it. Plus over the years we saw a lot of fans liked to switch up their custom name/number, grab a different size, or just like something fresh.
So why New York? Well, even though the Mets don't wear NEW YORK at home, it doesn't mean they (or we) shouldn't. The 1987 script they used is so unique and looks incredible on a jersey (or sweatshirt, cap, or decal, or pin....) and it's pretty baffling the team only used it for one season. When you look to other sports, teams often rock their town with pride even at home across their chests.
This 2022 jersey will not be sold separately, but a replica shirsey style version will go with our game-by-game ticket sales at Citi Field.
I'm pretty sure the optional jersey for members will be the drill going forward. I hope The 7 Line Army is around for generations to come, and this seems like the best route to keep that dream alive. One year at a time.
Renewals for members start on Monday the 15th (was supposed to be November 8th, but we pushed it a week) at 10am ET on Mets.com/The7LineArmy. Any seats that aren't renewed will be available on a first come first serve basis to new members starting Wednesday December 1st at 10am. The jersey will automatically be a part of new membership packages.
We're heading back to Port Saint Lucie to kick off the 2025 season! Join The 7 Line Army on Saturday, February 22nd to watch the New York Mets take on the Houston Astros at Clover Park for Spring Training Opening Day.
