We’re about to embark on the 2020 baseball season in Queens. Expectations will be high coming off last year’s late-season surge. We’ll also have a new, familiar-faced skipper in Carlos Beltrán. But 2020 also marks the 20th anniversary of one of the better moments in franchise history:
While we can’t bring back the likes of Mike Piazza, Al Leiter, and so many others that helped shape those early 2000s teams, there are rumblings of something else from that era that could make a comeback:
How many retweets to make it happen?

Bringing back the black unis would be a fitting way to honor the 2000 National League Champions. And while Stro and Pete seem to be all for it, #MetsTwitter has your expected variety of takes:

I hated the Mets black uni’s.
If the Mets bring back the black unis, they will win the World Series

If you don’t like the Mets black unis do you also hate puppies, cookies, and singing in the shower???

There have even been some polls that are overwhelmingly for bringing them back in some fashion:
Would you want the Mets to bring back the black jerseys?

Poll time! Do you want the Mets to bring back their turn-of-the-century era black alternate jerseys?

Howie Rose, who has a Twitter account that has yet to be revealed, passed his 2 cents over to Maj from the Mets Booth:
Howie just texted to ask "who do I have to speak to via Twitter in order to cut this 'bring the black jerseys back' nonsense off at the pass?"

Do I love the black unis? No. But as mentioned earlier, they do invoke a sense of nostalgia. They remind us of the Mike Piazza days, Robin Ventura’s walk-off grand slam single, and the beginning of Wright and Reyes in the infield. I say we bring them back. How often? We turn again to the Polar Bear:
On Fridays we should wear black

If the players make enough noise, the team will have to listen. My guess is that we’ll see them this year for more than one game. It would be a fitting way to honor the Mets teams of yesteryear as well as shake things up with a new manager coming in. In any sense, we can all agree on one jersey to never bring back:
